Mexican actress Ana de la Reguera created this series, I'm guessing as a dramatized version of her life. If not it still is a pretty accurate picture of what foreign actresses endure when trying to get roles in Hollywood.
Ana is a Mexican actress that's been trying to find her footing in Hollywood for a few years now, she's about to turn 40 and suddenly feels the pressure from the life her mother expect her to have. The boyfriend her mother expect her to have. The latina stereotype the producers in Hollywood expect her to be. The roles passing her by, given to younger and more popular influencers. The roles her Mexican manager wants her to take. And in between all of that chaos that her life is comes Papasito (played by Carlos Miranda) and aspiring musician and Uber driver that connects with Ana. Papasito helps her find her own footing in her life, take bolder decisions that would make her happy, and not her managers, producers or mother.
Is a funny story, the short series has its moments. De la Reguera is very charismatic and a good actress, she manages to take center stage quite good. Excellent supporting roles like Tina Romero as her mother or Carlos Miranda as Papasito. But somehow there are a couple of episodes that feel like filling episodes in order to complete the 10 episode first season. And without a doubt she probably has more stories to tell for a second season, but somehow it all feels irrelevant. Not that she is, but a wider audience even in Mexico, where she comes from, might not be interested into watching this story. And this is mostly why I give Ana such a low grade.
I like her very much, It makes me proud that she's playing Los Angeles mayor in Goliath for Amazon Prime. Can you imagine? A latina as major of such an important city as Los Angeles, I wanna see that happening IRL. Even though her character is not very honest, but well IRL I hope we can have an honest hard working latina taking over LA.
De la Reguera is a wonderful actress, she is very talented and I hope she can get or produce for herself, like this time, a better series or with a story that more people could be interested in.
Ana is also available con Amazon Prime Mexico and maybe the US.
