One of the most solid dramas on television right now is definitely this one. Now solid doesn't really mean the best, just that there's a quality that the show has over it's three seasons and most of its episodes.
The third season started with a bang with a story arc that it almost ran for three episodes. And they are arguably the best that the show has brought to us. When our favorite dispatchers had to save lives after a tsunami hits Los Angeles.
As crazy as that sounds the visual effects where decent for a tv show, and the production was outstanding for a tv show. After those episodes it went back to its usual episodic story arcs, with a couple of more exceptions during the season. For the season finale Connie Britton is back as Abby, ex 9-1-1 operator and ex girlfriend of Buck. The dispatchers have to help her and other passengers on a train that derails.
We miss Connie a lot and would love to see her back as operator and sharing scenes with Jennifer Love Hewitt, who came on board for the second season when they announced Connie's exit. J Love was a great addition and immediately got into the rhythm with the rest of the cast, and from time to time she gets to have a more active role than taking emergency calls.
I'm not really a fan of this type of franchises as NCIS, CSI or the Chicago's. But there is something about 9-1-1 that I find interesting, dynamic, thrilling and yes entertaining. Ryan Murphy has great series under his belt, some of them better than others and this series is probably the underdog of the Murphy family.
The show already expanded into a franchise with 9-1-1 Lone Star starring Rob Lowe. And both series got early renewals when the pandemic started.
