An animated disaster series, that was as epic as the Justice League Dark animated movie that was released a couple of months ago. Based on the novel by Sakyo Komatsu and with a script by Toshio Yoshitaka who worked on the Dragon Ball Super animated series, this story is thrilling from the very first episode. It mostly follows a family of four, fighting for their lives as the biggest earthquake in history hits Japan. A mother who's airplane is about to touchdown when the earthquake hits. A daughter who is finishing her practice at her athletic center, a father working setting some lights and screens at a stadium, preparing for a sporting event. A boy patiently waiting at home for the rest of his family.

The lives of this four members of a family entangle with more survivors looking for a safe place or maybe even get out of the country in order to survive.

The series starts with a bang, pretty soon things get very dark, this is not a kids cartoon. The magnitude of the disaster and my realization of what's about to come, thanks to the title, hits home from the very first minutes of the episode. The irony of this animated show is that is as real as it can get. Haven't seen so many death characters in any disaster Hollywood movie. If this was a Hollywood film or series, the whole family would have survived, well maybe one of them would have died towards the end, but even the dog would have make it to the happy ending. But this is a Japanese production and is as dark as any of their horror films at times.

The series also boost a proud nationalism, praising Japan's culture, technology advances and over all love of their country. They do this so much that it almost feels like a show saying goodbye and remembering that amazing country. Left me wondering am I missing something? is that earthquake slated to happen IRL soon?. 2020 please just don't. Or any other year for that matter.

The rest of the episodes are not as powerful as the first two, but still manages to be captivating. If you like disasters movies this is one of the best in the genre. Its totally worth your time and its also just 10 episodes long, with half an hour per episode. Blink and its done.
