Well yes, you read that right. It is uncommon to read something negative about this series. But the third season for me, lost a great part of its charm.
Maybe it was the fact that for most part of the season Villanelle and Eve were apart. The most entertaining episodes were the last ones when they finally get face to face.
This season they did focus more on Villanelle (still wonderfully played by Jodie Comer) her backstory and we got the chance to meet her family. That was an interesting episode to put it in some words. But still something was missing there.
I feel they gave more focus to how they dress her, always impecable and more fashionista than ever, but somehow this looks like a way of pushing Jodie and not Villanelle. So that Jodie can take the jump into A list film celebrity. She's got some projects coming up and her name is popping up on other ones. Already showcasing her to designers to dress her up in upcoming award season (that is of course if there is an award season)
Sandra Oh much like Jodie is still amazing at her job too. But unlike with Jodie, I feel they are not pushing her that hard. But like I said she is amazing, so there is no need too. And the same goes for Jodie. I don't know why they have this need of pushing her that hard, when their jobs speak for themselves. Everybody talks about them, everybody has great things to say about them. They just need to focus on the story and keeping it interesting enough and pushing boundaries, like they did back in the first season.
We had some closures to some of those storylines that I even thought that I was watching a series finale and not a season finale. But at the beginning of the season I couldn't really understand where they were taking us, by the third episode I started questioning myself why I still had Killing Eve on my playlist and was close to cancel it.
They also focused more on Carolyn Martens (played by Fiona Shaw) we also got to look her in a different perspective and not just this workaholic boss. But we learned just that, that she is also cold and workaholic as a mother and probably as a lover. They are expanding their world beyond Villanelle and Eve, I'm always up for that, the side stories help to keep a series alive, interesting and strong. But I do feel that with this third season they lost focus or maybe took things for granted.
This was not their best, lets see if they course correct for the fourth season.
