Marcella or should I say Keira (played by Anna Friel) is back for a third season. In the end of the second season Marcella realized that she has a dissociative personality disorder. She has a whole other side of her that takes control, and that explains all the black outs she has.

She is recruited to infiltrate a powerful family in Belfast. They know that she used to be a cop, but they don't know that her real name is Marcella and not Keira. They start getting suspicious when someone starts blackmailing Keira, sending her strange messages. The Maguire family lead by the mother Katherine (played by Amanda Burton) starts breaking when her in law puts the family in the police radar. Keira helps them manage the situation, but still there is something about her that she doesn't trust.

Anna Friel is even more amazing if that's even possible. The first few episodes I was having a hard time believing that she was Marcella, well... she wasn't, she was Keira and she is nothing like the Marcella we knew from past seasons. Is a whole new character that seems to be in a whole different series. That is until the story starts slowly tying in with her past before her mental breakdown.

It might not have you buckled to your seat like season 1, but season 3 has a reboot feeling that is also welcome. It invites you to stay and watch this new story unfold in its eight episode season. This reboot idea works perfectly into the story, she is a whole new person living a whole new life for the past 10 months trying to ease her way into the Maguire family. As audience we also get this feeling like just waking up after a black out and just going with the flow without asking many questions and seeing where everything takes us.

Amanda Burton as Katherine Maguire is brilliant, she plays this strong woman that just by looking at her you know you shouldn't cross her, to stay quiet and just talk when she lets you. She has her three sons under a very tight leash, and still she has the uncomfortable in law. Bobby (played by Martin McCann) he is the one that brings trouble to the family and also puts in jeopardy Keira's mission.

Keira is not the only one with a mental disorder. Rory Maguire (played by Michael Colgan) is also on that spectrum between agoraphobia and germaphobia, he looks like a lot of us will look after this pandemic. It would be relatable or I would be more emphatic with him if he wasn't so evil. He is a very complex villain in this story, much like his mother Katherine. Between these two they make a dinner at the Maguire table a very interesting event, to say the least.

It's a perfect binge watch for the weekend. My only complain is that there's been a two year gap between seasons and that breaks the rhythm of the show. But it also helps to build the suspense as you start to slowly remember events from past seasons as the new one starts developing and you are not quite sure about what is going on.

A must see thriller for the fans of the genre who I'm sure they already watch this British series, the third season does not disappoint and still manages to give us another shocking cliffhanger. We will see, probably in 2022, what the future holds for Keira or Marcella, or whoever returns for season 4.
