This has been a very consistent show since the beginning. Its rare when a TV show has the chemistry that this three girls have. Katie Stevens, Aisha Dee and Meghann Fahy play the lead characters trying to make it thru life. Love, profession and feminism take front center themes along the series. With a light, yet dramatic touch.

I love the series for how fresh it feels, they put a smile on my face one second and the next they have me teary eyed.

Its also slowly evolving as the girls grow up from their experiences at work on Scarlet magazine, the rest of the cast is still absolutely amazing.

For season 4 Jane (played by Katie Stevens) had to deal with a double mastectomy after the gen her mother had passed on to her. She deciden for caution measures to remove her breast before they get cancer. She's now dealing with the aftermath of her decision trying to find a way to feel comfortable with her new implants, the decision affected her more than she thought it would. This is one of the most powerful story lines the series has had, one that we've been fearing the day it happened since Jane received her results some time ago. As always Jane has her friends and her boss Jaqueline (played by Melora Hardin) to support her and help her with whatever she needs.

Sutton (played by Meghann Fahy) is now happily married and dealing with a long distance matrimony. She's still trying to figure out her career moves, but the people at Scarlet are still helping her out finding her calling. I'm not going to give you any spoilers on her, but she does have some rocky moments at the end of the season, they are serious matters, but somehow the story didn't really landed. I was surprised because they usually do, but this time what could have been some very sad and dramatic moments that could have been the trademarks of the season, actually they mostly save it for the season finale, but they weren't as powerful. I was kinda disappointed by it. It wasn't Meghann who as always was great, but probably the way the story developed or the reasons they gave us, or that hint of her being immature instead of growing up.

Finally there is Kat (played by Aisha Dee) she had some stumbles this season, for someone who seems to have her professional life figure out, life comes and rocks it under her. She leaves the magazine and starts bartending at a local woman's club, where she would stay until she finds her own track to success once again. Here she starts a crush with a white privileged conservative woman. This story line also made me raise an eye brow, Although is not the first time that people with opposite points of views end up together romantically. At first I let it go, go with it, but somehow it still felt weird to see Kat crushing on such a girl. After all Kat always speaks her mind, never stays quiet. Even when she confessed to Jane, she had the same reaction as I did, her really? face said it all.

Overall it was a good season that lost its track on the final two episodes, in The Bold Type's defense, they also had to cut the season short due to the pandemic, so that season finale isn't the real season finale. I'm still a little bit concern of where this story lines might take the girls and also the fact that it hasn't been renewed for a fifth season, Freeform usually renews ahead of the side B of the season the show. Also Aisha Dee, unlike Kat, spoke her mind about where the writers took the character this season. That she spoke her mind while shooting but still did it publicly. The lack of diversity in the writer's room, on positions with more power on set, even how the hair department just this season hired someone that specialized on textured hair. Remember this is season 4. For me she has always looked gorgeous on the show, but also recently Candice Patton spoke about her hair during The Flash last season and how finally they let her have black hair. After hearing that I did realize how she sported a straight look all of this past seasons and on this last one Iris West had her natural curls. Aisha spoke to all of those girls who feel they have difficult hair, that they don't have it, that now with someone that works with her type of hair she feels more confident, and not the girl with difficult hair on set.

I'm happy she spoke, she says before going public with that, she had that talk with the production team, but now realizing that the series hasn't been renewed has me fearing that is closer to cancelation after her remarks. Hopefully those same remarks can save the show and also, for a show that always speaks its mind, that start making some backstage changes that would help diversify the crew. But most important to have in house what they preach on the show.
