Yes it was a slow weekend and I ended up adding to my playlist this adaptation from the book series of the same name by Ann M. Martin. I decided to give this series a chance mostly because Alicia Silverstone was going to be part of it. I'm a big fan of her and I'm dying for her to get a Clueless level role that would put her back on the map. No, of course this wasn't going to be it, but still wanted to see her. Also I saw the film version they did back in 1995 with Rachael Leigh Cook and Larisa Oleynik. What happened to them?

The team of writers they had for this adaptation did a good role with some surprises in a couple of episodes, that actually got me saying that was good. One episode revolves around one of the girls having diabetes, they treated the subject very carefully and in a easy way so that kids, who are in the end the target market of this show, can understand it, and how people live a life with it.

There was another episode where they got into gender identity, again in such a caring, natural and emphatic way. I was almost shocked when this revelation came and how the sitter handle it in such a mature way. Much more mature than most adults. Reminding us that kids can understand so much better things, and that is us, the adults who complicate them.

Other subjects like how to handle your mother or father second wedding. A love one having a stroke. Everyday life events that can change a kids life and point of view. For me I think they did a terrific job telling all of this stories in a very family friendly way, kids can watch this and parents can watch it too if they like and discuss whatever happened in the episode and how he or she feels about it.

I am not a parent, but I am an uncle and sometimes I do get a tiny bit nervous when my nephew ask me some difficult questions, and he is only four years old, with time this questions would become more difficult, but this type of series can help parents get the ball rolling.

Talking about the girls they are fun to watch with great chemistry among them, you do believe they are best friends. Sophie Grace plays Kristy she's the leader and founder of the club, she's the more challenging to watch. She's a little bit a tough to like, she's stubborn and angry girl, who is really angry because her father left her. But her growing up, with the other girls, is what this series is really about.

Momona Tamada plays Claudia and I loved her for her relationship with her grand mother played by Takayo Fischer, it was so adorable that made me remember my childhood memories with my grandmother.

There's also an episode where Dawn played by the charismatic Xochitl Gomez discovers the inequity of capitalism and wealth privilege and demands equality for everyone who paid to be at the same summer camp. Yes maybe next generations would find a way to balance things.

Overall is a good choice now that kids are at home, is a good choice for them to watch. This surely will get renewed and hoping Alicia Silverstone has a slightly bigger part in it next time around, this season she was mostly worried about her second wedding, she plays Kristy's mother, she doesn't really interact much with the rest of the girls and she seems to be a very cool mom.But she does interact a couple of times with the rest of the adults. I do need a mothers centric episode of this show.
